Volunteer Ward Assistant
Location: Wolverhampton (WV3 9DH)
Are you an enthusiastic, confident individual? Are you looking to develop your skills? Available to Volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per week. If this, is you, we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our team working within the Inpatient Unit at Compton Care.
Our Clinical teams are welcoming and helpful with a can-do attitude, who work flexible and able to adapt to a variety of tasks and changing need of the patients. They work alongside our dedicated team of nurses, catering and central support teams.
The time commitment for this role is a minimum of 4 hours per week and will be agreed in advance with the Inpatient Services Manager.
Duties will include the following: -
Catering
- Assist in facilitating patient hydration and nutrition choices at mealtimes.
- Refilling and replacing water jugs in patient rooms.
- Collating menu selections for the catering team to prepare.
- Distributing pre-ordered meals to patients.
- Collecting used tableware from patient rooms/visitor areas and returning it to the kitchen
- Supporting patients to eat and drink within a reasonable timeframe, helping to maintain the quality of freshly prepared meals, as appropriate and guided by the clinical team
Housekeeping
- Checking of patient fridge temperatures.
- Cleaning and monitoring of food receptive areas in patient rooms
- Assisting with the preparation of patient rooms for new admissions
- Monitoring, tidying and re-stocking of consumables, storage areas and sluice rooms.
General Responsibilities
- Attend the Hospice Induction training session and any relevant role specific training
- Complete all mandatory training to ensure your understanding of the importance of Fire Safety, Emergency Procedures, Health and Safety and Infection Control
- Comply with all Hospice policies and procedures
- Observe confidentiality guidelines of the Hospice for patients and staff
- Express any personal concerns regarding your voluntary experience to IPU staff
- Use initiative and priorities tasks.
- Ensure safe practice through following local guidelines and policies.
- Identify any concerns when working with patients and their families and pass on appropriate information or concerns to the shift lead.
In this role, we are looking for dedicated volunteers to help Mondays to Sundays (excluding Wednesday), between the hours of 10am-2pm and 4pm-8pm.
About the onboarding process
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for an enhanced submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions. It is also subject to satisfactory references and occupational health clearance.
