An additional post has been created at Kirklees Council, offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our Electoral Services Team.
The Team
Electoral Services is a front line service, responsible for compiling and maintaining an accurate register of all eligible electors in the area, implementing statutory procedures surrounding the registration of electors and absent voters, along with the administration of free and fair elections and referendums. Electoral administration operates within a highly complex and technical environment, working in accordance with complex, fragmented legislation, statutory deadlines and to directions set by the Electoral Commission and/or regional leads.
The Role
You will be responsible for the provision of an effective, flexible and responsive technical, advisory and administrative support service through a range of duties.
You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of all aspects of the electoral process, including registration, local and national elections and referenda. You will have detailed knowledge and understanding of legislation governing elections and registration.
You will have a professional, friendly and polite manner to engage effectively with a wide range of customers and stakeholders from both inside and outside the Council. This includes political representatives such as elected members, political parties and regional leaders.
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and work with a high level of accuracy.
You should have a flexible and adaptable approach, and the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
You should have knowledge of applications and systems such as Microsoft Office, as well as knowledge of bespoke Electoral Management service system(s), and awareness of legislation governing electoral administration (election and registration).
Other role requirements
During peak periods you will be required to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays to meet service needs and demanding deadlines.
