The College of Richard Collyer in Horsham, ‘Collyer’s’, is one of the leading sixth form colleges in the country and the top state provider of A Levels in West Sussex. The College has an attractive campus and classrooms are well resourced, with ambitious plans for growth in the coming years that are already started. There is a collegiate and professional ethos amongst staff and students within which excellent teaching and learning can flourish.

The College provides education for over 2,750 young people in the 16-19 age range. Around half of each year’s intake comes from the four partner 11-16 schools in Horsham: Forest, Millais, Tanbridge House and Bohunt. Many others come from a wide range of schools which are further afield, including the independent as well as the maintained sector. Collyer’s has a very successful and consistent record in external

examinations. In 2025 the A level high grade rate (A*-B) was 61%. Results across our other course types such as vocational, technical, foundation and GCSE are equally strong. Collyer’s also runs leisure Adult Education courses in the evenings with students studying a range of recreational adult learning courses.

Trainee Teacher of Economics

Part time 0.65 – 0.80 FTE

Fixed term for 2 years

Required for September 2026

We are seeking a Trainee Teacher of Economics to teach on our A Level Economics course whilst working towards a teaching qualification over the course of 2 years. Training costs will be fully met by The College of Richard Collyer. Training will take place at a local provider, whilst teaching duties will take place at The College of Richard Collyer campus in Horsham. At the end of the 2-year contract and training the position will be reviewed with the intention for continued permanent employment for the right candidate.

This position would suit someone who is keen to pursue a rewarding teaching career at a top sixth form college and prefers to get directly into the classroom from day one whilst training on the job. The post will comprise of approximately 13 hours of teaching per week with additional time given for planning and preparation, and training.

You would be working alongside an experienced teaching team, supported by a mentor whilst studying for your teaching qualification on one evening per week for the duration of the 2 year course. We would be happy to hear from you if you would like to discuss this opportunity in more detail.

Salary range: For a full time post trainee teachers are paid UQT1 (Unqualified Teacher Point 1) in the first year which is £28,860pa rising to UQT2 £31,158pa in the second year. As the post being offered is part time 0.65 – 0.8FTE the salary in the first year will be £18,759 to £23,088 depending upon FTE
