Senior RF Test Engineer

IC Resources

A growing semiconductor technology company developing next-generation RF solutions for mobile and connected devices is seeking a Senior RF Test Engineer to join their development team in Cambridge.

This organisation is focused on simplifying RF front-end architectures and enabling more efficient global connectivity across a wide range of wireless products. Their engineering team works on cutting-edge RF technology, collaborating closely across RF design, systems, and validation disciplines to deliver high-performance, manufacturable products.

The company is now looking to appoint a Senior RF Test Engineer who will take ownership of RF measurement, characterisation, and validation activities across advanced RF modules and systems.

The role

As a Senior RF Test Engineer, you will play a key role in validating RF performance and ensuring strong correlation between simulation, design expectations, and measured hardware results.

Working closely with RF design and systems teams, the Senior RF Test Engineer will lead measurement activities, develop robust test methodologies, and help drive best practices across RF characterisation and validation.

This is a hands-on laboratory role suited to an engineer who enjoys solving complex RF measurement challenges and improving the efficiency and repeatability of RF test infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead RF characterisation and validation activities across RF modules and systems
  • Design and maintain robust, repeatable RF test setups for product evaluation
  • Perform and analyse 3GPP-aligned RF measurements (LTE and/or NR)
  • Provide measurement-driven feedback to RF design and systems teams
  • Develop automated RF test frameworks and measurement scripts (Python, MATLAB or similar)
  • Improve RF measurement methodologies, lab practices, and documentation standards
  • Troubleshoot complex RF test setups and hardware issues during development
  • Support design reviews with measurement insights and performance analysis
  • Maintain RF lab infrastructure including equipment calibration and measurement workflows

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related discipline
  • Strong practical experience in RF testing, characterisation, and validation
  • Experience performing RF measurements for cellular systems (LTE and/or NR)
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals including S-parameters, impedance matching, gain, noise figure, and linearity
  • Hands-on experience using RF lab equipment such as VNAs, spectrum analysers, and signal generators
  • Experience developing automated test setups and measurement scripts
  • Ability to interpret RF schematics, debug hardware, and analyse RF system behaviour
  • Experience maintaining RF lab environments and test infrastructure
  • Previous experience leading measurement activities or mentoring engineers would be beneficial

Personal Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working on complex measurement challenges
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary engineering team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality engineering output
