About The Role
Balfour Beatty Living Places is recruiting a Bid Manager to lead the pursuit of major opportunities across the highways maintenance market, including securing and retaining long-term contracts valued up to £1bn.
As Bid Manager, you will play a central role in assembling and leading high-performing bid teams to develop compelling, customer-focused proposals. You’ll work across the full bid lifecycle – from early engagement and capture planning through to submission and successful contract mobilisation.
Working in partnership with local authorities, Balfour Beatty Living Places delivers highways maintenance, street lighting and public realm services, helping communities run efficiently and safely every day.
What you'll be doing
- Leading the development and delivery of strategic bids from early engagement through to handover
- Owning bid strategy, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and business objectives
- Managing bid teams, including internal SMEs, external partners and supply chain
- Driving governance across the bid process, including budgets, programmes and approvals
- Producing high-quality, competitive and compliant submissions within agreed timelines
- Building strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders
- Leading customer intelligence gathering and competitor analysis to strengthen proposals
- Reviewing technical, commercial and legal content to ensure quality and consistency
- Coaching and developing bid team members to deliver high performance
Who we're looking for
You’ll be an experienced work-winning professional with a strong track record of leading complex bids and delivering results.
Essential
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary bid teams
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
- Experience developing compelling, customer-focused proposals
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Resilience and ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Desirable
- Experience within highways maintenance or a related engineering environment
- Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or related discipline
- APMP Practitioner qualification
