West Berkshire Council is seeking a Local Taxation Officer to join our Finance and Property Service, reporting to the Principal Local Taxation Officer. This is an excellent chance to contribute to the effective delivery of local taxation services within a forward-thinking local authority.

The Role

Responsibilities

As a Local Taxation Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality local taxation services to our customers. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Processing and maintaining accurate records of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates assessments, exemptions, and discounts.
  • Handling enquiries and providing advice to customers regarding local taxation issues.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate billing and collection of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates.
  • Working collaboratively with other teams, such as Revenues and Benefits, to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Contributing to the reconciliation and reporting of local taxation data.

As part of a small team, you will be working alongside dedicated professionals who are committed to delivering excellent customer service. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to resolve complex cases and provide comprehensive support to our residents.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience working in a Local Taxation role within a local authority environment.
  • Sound knowledge of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates legislation and regulations.
  • Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to process data accurately and efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deal with enquiries from customers and stakeholders.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
