Retail Team Member
National Trust
We’re looking for a Retail Team Member to welcome visitors to the National Trust shop at Fountains Abbey, answer their questions, and help them make the most of their day.
Salary: £12.75 per hour
Contract Duration: Fixed term until 30th September 2026
Contract Type: This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekends and Bank Holidays, but does not require evening or split shifts. Typically, shifts will start at 10am and finish at 5:45pm.
Provisional Interview Date: Tuesday 14th July
Proposed Start Date: Late July

What it's like to work here:Fountains Abbey Shop is an important part of the visitor experience, and as a Retail Team Member, you’ll develop your knowledge of the site, as well as learn about retail at the National Trust. The shop is a busy and varied environment, stocking a range of products across multiple departments, including locally sourced goods and plants. You’ll join a team of hard-working, outgoing, and friendly staff and volunteers. This role reports to the Retail Manager.

What you'll be doing:As Retail Team Member, you’ll offer customers help and shopping advice, working as a team to deliver great service. Other duties include receiving and unpacking deliveries, creating and maintaining displays both inside and outside, watering/looking after our plants and keeping the shop floor and our storage facilities clean and organised. This role would suit anyone with a passion for delivering great customer service and an interest in learning about retail.
