Retail Manager

As our Retail Manager for the York Area, you'll split your working week between Beningbrough Hall and York Shop, one of the National Trust's few high-street shops.
This is a unique opportunity to lead retail operations across both a National Trust property and a high-street location, balancing commercial performance with exceptional customer experiences. You'll play an important role in helping people enjoy their day, while generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive. In return, we'll give you the freedom to be creative and the support and tools you need to develop your career. Internally, you'll be known as a 'Retail Manager (Band 1)'.
Salary: £29,367 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, typically worked between 9.30am and 5.30pm, 5 days out of 7, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
Contract Duration: Permanent

What it's like to work here:Reporting to the Commercial Area Manager, you'll be a key part in the Commercial Operations Team and lead a team of Retail Team Leaders, Team Members and Volunteers across the York Area. You'll also be part of the property leadership team, working closely with the General Manager and wider team, playing an active role in decisions that affect the portfolio.

What you'll be doing:Your focus every day will be on delivering the best possible experience for our customers. You'll lead your team from the front, encouraging them to engage with visitors, listen to what they want and create memorable experiences.
You'll inspire your team to help every customer understand the difference their contribution - however small - makes to the Trust's work in protecting nature, beauty and history. You'll set ambitious targets and work collaboratively with your team to achieve them through outstanding customer service, strong commercial performance and excellent presentation of our retail offer.

Who we're looking forWe'd love to hear from you, if you’re:
- an experienced retail manager, familiar with standard processes (including selling, merchandising, space management, stock control, risk)
- skilled in coaching, developing and leading teams
- experienced in managing rotas and recruiting staff
- adept at getting maximum sales out of a retail outlet
