We’re looking for a caring, adaptable, and proactive Theatre Healthcare Assistant to join our busy operating theatre team. This is your chance to work alongside skilled nurses, operating department practitioners, and surgeons, contributing directly to high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, rewarding environment. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our theatres run smoothly, while supporting patients and their families throughout their surgical journey.

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours a week, with shifts between Monday and Sunday; 07:00 - 17:00.

What you'll be doing

As Our Theatre Healthcare Assistant, You Will Be

  • Assisting registered nurses and operating department practitioners in delivering safe, effective care in line with agreed plans.
  • Supporting patients with empathy and dignity before, during, and after procedures.
  • Helping maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked theatre environment.
  • Preparing and cleaning equipment between cases, assisting with patient transfers, and ensuring stock levels are maintained.
  • Liaising with suppliers about stock and supporting the theatre stock control process.
  • Participating in regular theatre meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Following infection control, health & safety, and data protection guidelines at all times.
  • Taking part in training and personal development to continually build your skills.

What we'll look for in you

Role

With your previous experience in a healthcare assistant or caring role, ideally within an operating theatre setting, you will also have:

  • A compassionate approach and commitment to patient dignity, respect, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, work within defined boundaries, and use your initiative.
  • Strong team working skills and clear communication with colleagues, patients, and relatives.
  • Flexibility, a positive attitude, and willingness to learn new skills.
  • A good standard of literacy, with NVQ Level 2/3 in operating department support or IT training desirable.
