Downs Infant School is a lively, vibrant and successful infant school in the heart of Brighton, seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and talented part-time SEND teacher from September 2026.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and effective classroom practitioner able to teach across the 4–7 age range, demonstrate secure knowledge of the National Curriculum, and use specialist expertise in adaptive teaching, assessment and intervention to deliver high-quality, inclusive education that enables all pupils—particularly those with SEND—to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will uphold the school’s ethos and contribute to a culture of high expectations, inclusion and care.

Part-time: 0.6 FTE

5 mornings per week, Monday-Friday, term time only, with an additional afternoon for Planning, Preparation and Assessment time (PPA).

Paid weeks per year: 47.36 (inclusive of holiday entitlement)

Fixed term: Until 31 August 2027, as position dependent on external funding.

Start date: 1 September 2026

  • Is committed to raising standards and contributing to whole-school improvement.
  • Can inspire learning through a creative, enriched, and adaptive curriculum within an outstanding environment.
  • Builds excellent relationships with pupils, parents/carers, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Has energy, enthusiasm, and a flexible, creative approach to teaching and provision.
  • Works collaboratively with the SENDCo, class teachers, and support staff to plan and deliver learning within the Inclusion Intervention Space.
  • Effectively delivers a bespoke curriculum for pupils with delayed learning and communication needs.
