The North Midlands and Black Country Procurement Group (NMBC) is comprised of The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM), The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust (WHT), The Black Country Pathology Services (BCPS), North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust (NSCHT), Black Country Healthcare Foundation Trust (BCHFT), Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) and Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit (MLCSU).
The NMBC is responsible for all aspects of Procurement, Supply Chain and wider Commercial support covering a range of Acute, Mental Health, Community, Pathology Networks, GP Practices and Commissioning Support Units across the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, Black Country, Shropshire and South Cheshire Integrated Care System (ICS’s).
With almost 200 staff, 55,000 customers and managing a total non pay spend portfolio of over £1.2b per annum the NMBC is one of the largest and influential Group Procurement Organisations (GPO’s) in the NHS.
The Strategic Procurement Manager is a vital member of the NMBC Management team, with a team of 3 staff (one direct report) responsible for the procurement of Non-Medical contracts & services for Estates & Facilities & Central Functions Divisions for UHNM, reporting to the Head of Procurement - Strategic Sourcing. This post is based at County Hospital site near Stafford.
This demanding role is an integral in supporting the Departments delivery of all strategic objectives & national/regional obligations, maximize value for money, minimising operational/commercial risk whilst ensuring compliance with UK Procurement Legislation & the Trust's Standing Financial Instructions. You would be directly responsible for a portfolio of contracts & also for managing, supporting and guiding the work of the Non-Medical Strategic team based at the Royal Stoke site. Therefore, weekly attendance at the Royal Stoke site would be expected.
We operate a flexible working policy & also offer partial working from home (2 days per week) as part of the role. The band 7 position offers a starting salary of £49,387 (rising to £51,932 after 2 years experience and £56,515 after a further 3 years - Agenda for Change pay scales for 2026/27).
The Trust offers 27 days annual leave on appointment, rising to 29 days after 5 years' of service and 33 days after 10 years' of service. In addition, there is also the potential to accrue hours towards flexi-leave in accordance with the flexible working policy.
