Student Support Mentor
College location: East Surrey College/John Ruskin College
Salary : £31,094 per annum full time equivalent (pro rata, term-time only + 3 weeks)
Hours: Monday and Friday - 8:45 am to 5:00 pm
Do you have the experience to establish positive relationships with students through engagement and interaction, increasing skills and confidence and helping them to develop positive attitudes and behaviours that prepare them for independence, future studies and employment? If yes, we would like to hear from you.
You'll be playing a key role in engaging and interacting with students around the campus, ensuring social spaces, corridors and communal areas are safe and welcoming, and that students maintain good standards of behaviour. You will work collaboratively with staff across the college to identify and support students at risk through targeted mentoring interventions.
You will be supporting young people to make positive changes in their lives, helping them to develop action plans to build resilience, develop new skills and achieve their learning potential, while contributing to enrichment and engagement activities and improving the student attendance and experience.
The successful candidate must have
- Knowledge of KCSiE (Keeping Children Safe in Education)
- Knowledge and understanding of the Prevent Duty
- Experience of working with young people who may present with challenging behaviour and using de-escalation techniques and professionally resolving conflict
- Awareness of the issues impacting learners in the current climate

Note: This is a term-time only plus 3 weeks role.
