Project Director Designation

Macdonald & Company

Macdonald & Company are thrilled to be partnering with the Duchy of Cornwall to make a number of key hires for the Development Team.

The Duchy of Cornwall is an estate committed to empowering communities, championing its tenants, supporting mental health, and tackling climate challenges through its net zero goal and environmental initiatives. The ultimate aim is to create positive impact and value for the future, balancing the environmental, social and economic needs of communities .

The new hires will increase the capacity and capabilities of the development team, as the Duchy embarks on a new 10 year strategy.

To enable the Duchy to maximise its social, economic and environmental impact, it will be focusing the majority of its investment and role in five “

Heartland” locations, the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, Bath, Dartmoor and Kennington.

In Cornwall, much of this will be about delivering housing solutions that meet local needs, whilst also supporting sustainable employment opportunities to create resilience in the seasonal economies that exist. There will be opportunities for increasing access to nature and strengthening the connections between the Duchy’s rural businesses and urban environments such as Nansledan and Newquay.

Nansledan has plans for affordable and Build to Rent homes, as well as a range of employment and leisure opportunities that reflect the Duchy’s ambition to create and nurture a healthy, vibrant, viable community.

On the Isles of Scilly, the Duchy is seeking to build further housing, particularly for local key workers, navigating the challenging logistics of building on an island. It will also be looking to build upon the existing tourism experience to make it an even more attractive place to live, visit and work.

The Role

The Project Director Designate will initially shadow the Project Director who is working reduced hours in the run up to retirement. Alongside the Project Director and reporting to the Development Director, they will oversee all construction and development activity at Nansledan. This will include the delivery (directly delivered by a Duchy operational team) of a new high street in Nansledan, Market Street, which comprises c150,000 sq ft of retail, office and F&B space. They will also deliver key infrastructure, new workshops, public realm, barn conversions and leisure spaces such as astro pitches and Padel courts.

They will also provide support to colleagues on the Isles of Scilly, as they seek to deliver further housing solutions on the islands.

Who Should Apply?

We’d like to hear from Project Directors with demonstrable Project Management and Team Leadership experience, gained on high quality UK, mixed-use schemes.

We seek candidates who share the values of the Duchy to deliver positive outcomes for communities, nature and climate.
