Made in Stirling is expanding it's current pottery studio into a sustainable community ceramics facility, made possible with funds from The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.

The Studio Manager will play a central role in establishing and developing the Made in Stirling Pottery Studio as a welcoming, professionally run, and financially sustainable community ceramics facility. Reporting to the Creative Director of Made in Stirling CIC, the potholder will oversee studio operations, programme delivery, partnerships, memberships, and day-to-day planning.

We are looking or someone who can help build a strong studio culture, grow earned income, expand public engagement, and help position Stirling as a recognised centre for ceramics practice and learning.

Contract terms

  • 18-month contract initially, with potential for extension.
  • Salary £28,600 p/annum
  • 37.5 hrs p/w

Key Responsibilities

Studio Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the pottery studio.
  • Manage memberships, inductions, bookings, and studio access.
  • Coordinate kiln schedules, stock control, maintenance, and equipment.
  • Maintain safe, professional, and efficient studio systems.
  • Support financial sustainability through budget monitoring alongside finance staff.

Programme Delivery

  • Plan and coordinate classes, workshops, masterclasses, residencies and outreach activity.
  • Schedule freelance tutors and visiting artists.
  • Contribute to exhibitions and public programming.
  • Develop programmes in response to community need and participant feedback.

Leadership & Community engagement

  • Support interns, resident makers, and freelance practitioners.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative studio culture.
  • Build partnerships with schools, community organisations, and sector networks.
  • Develop outreach activity that improves access for underrepresented groups.
  • Represent the studio within Scotland's ceramics and craft sector, including partnerships with organisations such as the Scottish Potters Association.

Marketing & Audience Development

  • Oversee the studio's digital presence, including social media and website content.
  • Promote classes, memberships, exhibitions, and events.
  • Work with the wider team on branding, storytelling, and audience development.
  • Use engagement data to improve communications and participation.

Health, Safety, & Evaluation

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, and equality policies.
  • Carry out risk assessments and oversee safe use of studio equipment.
  • Collect participation, financial, and impact data for reporting and evaluation.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and sustainability.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in ceramics, studio management, arts administration, or programme delivery.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ceramics studio processes and safe working practices.
  • Experience monitoring budgets or income.
  • Commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and Fair Work principles.

Desirable

  • Teaching, facilitation, or community arts experience.
  • Experience managing a membership-based creative space.
  • Exhibition or curatorial experience.
  • Knowledge o Scotland's arts and craft sector.
  • Experience delivering funded projects.
