PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN NTERNAL ROLE FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE RUH ONLY

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the Cellular Pathology Department as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist. This is a one-year, fixed-term position. The successful applicant will be expected to complete their Registration Portfolio within one year; however, there will be no guarantee of a permanent post upon completion.

This opportunity is limited to internal applicants only, who hold an IBMS accredited BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science (or are studying towards getting accreditation via top-up modules for their degree) and with proven recent practical laboratory experience in Cellular Pathology techniques.

This fixed-term position will be based in the Histology section which processes 31,000 histology cases per annum and is situated in modern facilities within the Herschel Building; we are accredited for training by the IBMS and hold UKAS accreditation. This post is suitable for someone who is highly motivated and a good team worker.

Main duties of the job

The role of a trainee biomedical scientist is to perform investigations or process tissue and body fluids which are used to diagnose, monitor and treat patients. Under the direction and supervision of qualified staff the post holder will gain experience in the delivery of routine and/or specialist diagnostic laboratory services in accordance with national and professional standards.

The post-holder will be expected to complete an agreed programme of one year’s training in the working laboratory which has been accredited for training purposes. The training will be delivered in aspects of Biomedical Science to achieve HCPC registration; it may require the post-holder to spend time working in different laboratories and/or Biomedical Science disciplines.

This is a fixed-term position for a period of 1 year and the training will need to be completed within that period.

There may not be a guaranteed qualified BMS post at the end of the training period or when HCPC registered.
