Are you an experienced pensions professional with a passion for governance, risk management, and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives? We are looking for a Pensions Governance Executive to play a key role in supporting the governance of one of the UK's largest pension arrangements.
This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with Trustee Boards, senior stakeholders, investment advisers, and external partners, leading ESG-related activities and driving strategic governance projects that support the long-term success of the Plan.
Location: Bedford / from January 2027 office will move to Milton Keynes (office attendance required 1 - 2 times per week)
Job Purpose
As Pensions Governance Executive, you will be responsible for the management of the Trustee Board's Environmental, Social and Governance Committee (ESGC), ensuring effective governance, regulatory compliance, and delivery of key strategic initiatives.
You will lead ESG-related projects, support risk management activities, oversee adviser and supplier performance, and contribute to the development and implementation of the Trustee's strategic objectives. Working closely with senior governance leaders, you will help ensure the highest standards of governance across the pension scheme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the administration and governance of the Environmental, Social and Governance Committee (ESGC).
- Drive the Plan's ESG strategy, stewardship activities, sustainability initiatives, and net-zero ambitions.
- Coordinate the production of Climate (TCFD) and Stewardship Code reports with external advisers.
- Manage governance projects and contribute to the delivery of the Trustee's strategic business plan.
- Maintain and oversee ESG-related risk management activities, ensuring risks are appropriately monitored and reported.
- Support the delivery of governance services to key pension committees, including investment and funding committees.
- Prepare committee agendas, meeting papers, minutes, action logs, and governance documentation.
- Build strong relationships with Trustee representatives, advisers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor adviser and supplier performance, budgets, and service delivery to ensure value for money.
- Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies, including opportunities to leverage AI and automation.
- Ensure compliance with pension regulations, governance requirements, and internal policies.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior colleagues where appropriate.
Your Profile
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent pensions experience and/or professional qualification.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience within pensions governance, pensions management, trustee secretariat, or a similar environment.
- Strong understanding of UK occupational pension schemes and pension governance frameworks.
- Experience supporting Trustee Boards and formal committee structures.
- Knowledge of ESG, stewardship, sustainability, and risk management principles.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience managing external advisers, suppliers, and budgets is advantageous.
- Proactive, collaborative, and solutions-focused approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
