Altrad are currently looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Quality Apprentice to join our Tank Fabrication business based in Newhouse.

This is an exciting opportunity for a young person looking to begin a rewarding career in engineering and quality. The successful candidate will undertake a Level 4 Quality Practitioner qualification through Lakes College in Cumbria, attending four one-week residential college blocks throughout the apprenticeship programme.

Alongside gaining valuable industry experience at our Newhouse office, there may be opportunities to travel and support projects across the UK, providing exposure to a wide range of engineering activities and environments.

Key Deliverables

  • Support the Quality team with day-to-day Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities.
  • Learn and assist in ensuring compliance with legal requirements, client expectations, ISO standards, and company procedures.
  • Assist in preparing, maintaining, and updating project-specific quality documentation and plans.
  • Support QA/QC activities throughout all project phases, including Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning.
  • Help organise, coordinate, and participate in internal and external audits, both on-site and off-site, in line with project audit schedules.
  • Assist with supply chain quality activities, including supplier reviews, inspections, and quality record compilation.
  • Learn how to monitor, analyse, and report Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Support the compilation and maintenance of project lifetime quality records.
  • Work closely with project teams to understand how quality requirements are managed alongside programme, commercial, and cost constraints.
  • Develop an understanding of industry quality management systems and continuous improvement processes.

Key Requirements / Qualifications

English

  • GCSE Grade 4/C (or international equivalent) in English, English Literature, English Language, or English Language and Literature.
  • Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in English.
  • Level 2 Key Skills qualification in Literacy or Communication.
  • Scottish Intermediate 2 Grade C in English.
  • Scottish National 5 Grade C in English.

Mathematics

  • GCSE Grade 4/C (or international equivalent) in Mathematics, Linear Maths, Modular Maths, Application of Maths, Methods in Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Mathematics - Numeracy, or Use of Mathematics.
  • Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics.
  • Level 2 Key Skills qualification in Application of Number.
  • Scottish Intermediate 2 Grade C in Mathematics.
  • Scottish National 5 Grade C in Mathematics.
