Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Looking for a rewarding full-time role supporting children with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and complex needs? We are recruiting dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist school in Newcastle. Ideal for candidates based in Newcastle or surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students with SEN under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher.
• Implement individual education plans (IEPs) for students and monitor their progress.
• Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEN.
• Assist in the management of classroom behavior and help create a positive learning environment.
• Support with personal care
• Support students during school activities, including outings and sports events.
• Work collaboratively with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff members to ensure effective support for students.
• Maintain accurate records of students’ progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.

Requirements

• Experience working with Secondary students with special educational needs is highly desirable.
• A patient, empathetic, and positive attitude.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools) are advantageous but not essential.
• A valid DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
• PECS or Makaton experience would be beneficial
