Brief overview of the role

SO32 1QD We are looking for a motivated and practical Laboratory Technician Apprentice to join our laboratory team. This is a great opportunity to earn while you learn, developing hands‑on laboratory skills while working towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship.

Qualifications Required

GCSEs in Maths, English, and a science subject (or equivalent) at grade 4-9 or equivalent.

Personal Qualities

  • Ability to work unsupervised following a planned work schedule
  • Writing and numeracy skills
  • Familiarity with computers / keyboards / typing skills
  • Word, Excel, Access – statistics, graphs, data analysis
  • General awareness of importance of safety, and in particular safety issues of working in a laboratory.

Because of the technical experience you will gain from working in a laboratory, you will gain skills which many graduates have yet to develop. If you have practical ability, ability to solve problems and good communication skills there are opportunities for progression towards higher qualifications.

Vacancy description

As a Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you will support the day‑to‑day work of the laboratory, assisting with testing, preparing samples and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. You will be trained and supported throughout the apprenticeship. (Southampton)

The candidate will cover Dispatch all day on a Wednesday and help out weighing out peptides for dispatch each morning. We are looking to develop this candidate to work in QC analysing peptide quality ready for dispatch. They will also be responsible for the archive store and our retention samples

Assisting with laboratory tests and experiments under supervision

Preparing samples, materials and equipment for testing

Accurately recording results and maintaining laboratory records

Cleaning, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment

Following health & safety procedures and quality standards

What we’re looking for:

An interest in science and laboratory work

Good attention to detail and organisational skills

Willingness to learn and follow instructions

Basic IT skills

GCSEs (or predicted grades), particularly Maths and Science, are desirable but not essential
