We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Planning Apprentice to join our team. This is your chance to gain real-world experience while helping create safer, more sustainable and better-connected communities.

In this role, you’ll support the assessment of new development proposals, looking at how they affect roads, safety and accessibility. You’ll play a part in promoting sustainable travel options such as walking, cycling and public transport—making a real difference to people’s everyday lives.

Alongside your work, you’ll study towards the Transport Planning Technician Apprenticeship at Leeds College of Building, fully funded by the Council—so you can earn while you learn.

On successful completion, you’ll be eligible for professional recognition as a Transport Planning Technician (TPTech/MTPS) or Engineering Technician (EngTech/MCIHT), giving you a strong foundation for a long-term career in transport planning.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting transport input into planning applications
  • Assisting with road safety, traffic impact and accessibility work
  • Promoting sustainable and active travel options
  • Learning from experienced professionals and building technical skills

About you

  • Interested in transport, planning or the built environment
  • Good communication and numeracy skills
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and keen to learn
  • 5 GCSEs (grades 9–4), including English, Maths and Science (or equivalent)
