The Role
The core function of the GP lecturer (Year 3 Teaching Content) is to deliver, coordinate and develop materials for the year 3 GP component of the MBBS curriculum. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and vibrant group of GP educationalist at Newcastle University.

Key Accountabilities
Accountable to the Board of Medical Studies through the Head of GP Teaching and the Director of Medical Studies to manage the teaching delivery of the MBBS GP year 3 curriculum. Working with the Year 3 GP lead, currently Dr Muando, the candidate will lead on the delivery, the coordination and the development of teaching materials for year, both the online sessions and the face-to-face weekly teaching sessions.
- Recruit, train and supervise GPs to teach the year 3 online sessions
- Develop the year 3 teaching materials, where applicable in coordination with the GP speciality leads under the guidance of the year 3 GP lead
- To train and supervise the year 3 GP teachers to deliver the teaching content
- Develop and curate self-directed online learning materials for year 3 students, which support students’ revision and learning of topics that have been identified for self-study
- Develop innovative interprofessional learning opportunities for year 3 medical students (such as lead a project which to develop interpreter-mediated consultation videos to enhance medical and interpreter student learning).
- Contribute to year 3 assessment through question writing and participating in standard setting meetings
- To be accountable to the Year 3 GP lead, currently Dr. Muando and Prof. Alberti
- To contribute to relevant committees, such as regional GPL meetings, and to liaise with the regional GPLs regrading year 3 teaching
- To make a reasonable contribution, in consultation with the Head of GP teaching, to teaching and assessment and other curriculum processes (e.g. student selection) ‘beyond’ Year3
- To demonstrate a commitment to developing relevant knowledge and skills in relation to teaching and curriculum management
- To engage in subject, professional and pedagogic research and scholarship as required to enhance teaching and learning provision, securing appropriate funding when necessary

- Experience of developing teaching materials

- Some flexibility in their clinical work

Qualifications
Essential:
- Holds an MBBS degree or equivalent
- Fully qualified (MRCGP) and currently practising GP with teaching experience
- Knowledge of the year 3 MBBS curriculum
- Experience of teaching MBBS students
- An interest in developing an academic career
Desirable:
- Possesses a further teaching qualification, such as the Masters in Medical Education, a Trainer’s qualification, or a further degree
- Knowledge of the Year 3 online tutorials
