Project Engineer – Cabling (Power T&D)
Assington (Suffolk) – BTNO Project | Site-based
Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced
Project Engineer – Cabling to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team, supporting delivery on the BTNO project in Assington.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a high-profile infrastructure project, playing a key role in delivering critical power assets across the UK.
As Project Engineer, you will work alongside the Project Manager / Project Director and wider project team, taking accountability for successful delivery across planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning, and handover.
You will define and formalise engineered solutions, communicate these clearly to site teams, and ensure works are delivered through effective leadership and coordination.
You will also manage and support the workforce while ensuring compliance with project requirements across time, cost, quality, and safety.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Project Delivery
- Translate design information into safe, efficient delivery on site
- Support planning, scheduling, and coordination of cabling works
- Ensure outputs meet programme, quality, and client specifications
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Drive a strong Zero Harm culture across site activities
- Prepare and review RAMS and ensure safe systems of work
- Monitor workforce competency and site compliance
- Support audits, inspections, and incident investigations
Planning & Controls
- Support development and management of project programmes
- Monitor progress and drive productivity on-site
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and project documentation
Commercial & Performance
- Assist in managing costs and delivering within budget
- Support change management and commercial performance
- Identify risks, opportunities, and efficiencies across the project
Stakeholder & Supply Chain
- Manage subcontractors and ensure alignment to programme
- Liaise with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders
- Support procurement and resource planning activities
Leadership
- Support and develop Site Engineers and junior team members
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and inclusive environment
- Provide coaching and support to drive team performance
Who we're looking for
- Experience delivering cabling projects within Power T&D
- Strong understanding of construction and engineering principles
- Experience implementing safe systems of work
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to manage priorities and solve problems effectively
Desirable
- Degree (or equivalent) in engineering/construction
- CSCS and SMSTS (or equivalent)
- Working towards APM qualification
