Who we are – Our school
Here at Flax Bourton Church of England Primary School, we hold a strong sense of community and partner with our families and the local church. Our vision is that all members of our school would ‘grow together towards life in all its fullness’. We do this by living out our values of compassion, courage and curiosity.
We are a one form entry school set within the North Somerset countryside, approximately five miles from the city of Bristol. We have the privilege to serve the villages of Flax Bourton and Barrow Gurney as well as the surrounding areas.
Our school was inspected by Ofsted in April 2025. We are pleased that the school has been judged as GOOD in all areas (quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years). The inspection identified a successful, happy learning environment,
“Pupils enjoy learning at this school. They are eager to learn and play with their friends. The curriculum is ambitious in what it expects pupils to know.”
Inspectors noted the strong personal development of our children and noted that they are “courteous and articulate when talking to visitors” and “older pupils learn to be caring and compassionate.”
They also praised the school’s outward-looking approach, “The school ensures it prepares pupils for life beyond the locality. Pupils learn about world events and moral issues during assemblies. This helps them to become sympathetic, world citizens.” “Staff welcome children with open arms and help them to feel comfortable in their new surroundings. Children acquire new learning well as a result.”
Who we are – our Trust
As a proud member of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, our school belongs to an extensive network of schools. Our Trust employ more than 1,500 employees, serving almost 12,500 children across 30 schools in Bristol, Bath & North-East Somerset and North Somerset. Our school maintains its distinct identity, thanks to our Trust's belief in celebrating the individuality of every school it oversees. Embracing this philosophy, we find ourselves united in a close-knit partnership that encourages school-to-school support and the exchange of best practices. Together, we cultivate a thriving learning community, empowering both our pupils and staff to unlock their full potential and reach new heights of success.
