Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Imaging Department at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHSFT (Bedford site) for suitably qualified

Band 6 Radiographers to apply for a Band 7 Plain Film Radiographer (secondment) position.

This is a modality‑specific role within plain film/x‑ray, with the flexibility to rotate according to service needs. The post holder will support service delivery, lead on training and development within the wider team, contribute to audit and service improvement, and deputise for the Modality Manager when required.

You will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with colleagues in a supportive, professional, and community‑focused environment. Main duties of the job

  • Actively contribute to the delivery of high‑quality imaging services, ensuring consistently excellent standards of patient care.
  • Serve as a role model for radiographers, student radiographers, and other healthcare staff, supporting their development into skilled and compassionate professionals.
  • Supervise staff within the clinical environment, offering guidance and support to maintain smooth, effective service delivery.
  • Deputise for the Modality Manager in their absence, taking on leadership and supervisory responsibilities to ensure continuity of care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • BSc In Radiography or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
  • Certificate in cannulation

Desirable criteria

  • Post Graduate Cerificate/Diploma
  • Post graduate study in Imaging specialty
  • ILS trained

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience in general radiographic practice
  • Extensive experience in specialised modality practice

Desirable criteria

  • Extensive experience in a second specialised modality

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Professional knowledge across the spectrum of cross-sectional/ specialised procedures
  • Sound scientific and technical knowledge relevant to the post
  • Awareness of all legislation and safety requirements relevant to the post
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous personal professional development and has a CPD Portfolio
  • Commitment to governance and audit

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of governance and audit procedures
  • Willing to undertake further postgraduate study

Personal Skills

Essential criteria

  • Skilled in performing specialised imaging
  • Ability to undertake range of both general & specialised examinations
  • Participate in first line image interpretation
  • Computer literacy, with excellent computer / keyboard skills / mouse skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients and staff
  • Deal sensitively with patients and colleagues from all cultural backgrounds
  • Experience of public presentation
  • Leadership and motivational skills; motivate, inspire and gain commitment
