Job Title: Facilities Assistant

Location: Castle Garden School, Guildford, Surrey GU1 S3Q

Hours: 40 per week | Monday–Friday | 8:00am – 4:00pm

Salary: Up to £26,500 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent | 52 Weeks

Start: August 2026

At Castle Garden School, we're looking for a dedicated and hands-on Facilities Assistant to help maintain a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment for our pupils and staff. As a Facilities Assistant, you'll support the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of our school, helping to ensure our buildings, grounds and equipment remain safe, functional and well-presented. From planned maintenance and repairs to supporting emergency responses and health and safety checks, no two days are the same. You'll have the opportunity to use your specialist skills while contributing to a wide variety of projects that help create an environment where pupils can thrive.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs and refurbishment tasks across the school site
  • Using your specialist trade skills in areas such as plumbing, joinery, decorating or general maintenance
  • Maintaining the buildings, grounds and facilities to the highest professional standards
  • Conducting regular site inspections and identifying health and safety issues or improvement opportunities
  • Liaising with contractors and suppliers while supporting the Facilities Manager with larger projects
  • Supporting fire safety procedures, emergency evacuations and weekly alarm checks
  • Ensuring tools, machinery, chemicals and equipment are used, stored and maintained safely in line with COSHH regulations
  • Assisting with basic vehicle maintenance and travelling between site areas as required
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to risk assessments and safe working procedures
  • Providing flexible support to the wider facilities team and responding promptly to urgent maintenance needs

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in general maintenance, repairs and site upkeep
  • Skilled in a specialist trade area such as plumbing, joinery, decorating or similar
  • Knowledgeable about Health & Safety procedures and COSHH regulations
  • Practical, organised and able to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Methodical, reliable and committed to delivering high standards
  • Confident communicating with colleagues, contractors and external visitors
  • Competent with basic IT systems and record keeping
  • Committed to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of children and young people
  • In possession of a full UK driving licence

Castle Garden School is a brand-new independent specialist school for pupils with autism between 5 - 11 years of age.
