Job Title: Instructor Demonstrator Assessor in Hairdressing & Barbering

Department: Service Industries

Reporting to: Associate Director, Quality – Service Industries

Contract: MC Teaching Support, Hourly Paid

Salary: £23.71 per hour including holiday pay (£21.16 per hour + £2.55 holiday pay per hour)

Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

The Role

We are seeking a skilled Hourly Paid Instructor Demonstrator Assessor in Hairdressing & Barbering to support the delivery of hands-on, practical training in a professional salon environment. You will demonstrate techniques, guide learners through treatments and services, and assess their competence, ensuring they develop the skills, confidence, and standards required within the hairdressing and barbering industry. Working closely with teaching staff, you will support learners in workshops, salons, and real work settings, helping them build their practical ability and progress towards successful careers in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • To instruct, train, demonstrate and assess students on competence based/skills-based learning programmes devised.
  • To support lecturing staff on competence-based skills to standards set by external bodies, currently industry-led bodies and awarding bodies.
  • To assist individual student/trainees in the development of their individual learning plan in order to achieve their objectives and to meet external set standards.
  • To maintain safe working practices.
  • To assist in the guidance of students within the learning programmes and regular updates on progress to Pro Monitor.

Qualifications

  • To hold a minimum Level 3 Hairdressing qualification.
  • To be a qualified teacher or must be prepared to commence an appropriate teaching qualification on appointment to the post.
  • To hold an Assessor Award or be willing to work towards within an agreed timescale.
  • Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Current and relevant Industrial Experience.
  • Teaching and/or Training Experience – Desirable.

Knowledge & Skill

  • Up to date subject knowledge.
  • Good communication skills with a range of trainees/learners and staff.
  • IT Skills appropriate to the needs of the post – Desirable.
