Eating Disorder Practitioner

We are seeking to appoint 1 dynamic registered nurse to the Specialist Family Eating Disorder Service. This is a full time position that supports Flexible Working.
SFEDS treats families/carers and young people aged 10–18 with Atypical Anorexia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa through evidence‑based interventions, including Maudsley Family Therapy and E‑CBT. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality treatment in accordance with NICE Guidelines and National Access and Waiting Times Standards.
Our team provides treatment across Sussex; the postholder will need to travel across sites according to service need.
The service consists of Family and Systemic Psychotherapists, Consultant Psychiatrist, Paediatrician, Clinical and Assistant Psychology, Nurses, Dietitian and Occupational Therapy.
You will support systemic thinking and nursing practice within the team, undertake audits, offer clinical supervision to junior nursing colleagues and students, and lead quality improvement, service development and research.
You will work in duty and triage, undertake assessments, act as Lead Practitioner, provide NICE‑recommended treatment to families and young people, manage risk, review treatment efficacy and escalate accordingly (including mental and physical health), organise and chair meetings, support transitions into Tier 4 care and back to the community, and liaise effectively with internal and external services.
- To provide a qualified, high quality specialist nursing service to individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams, in line with best evidence-based practice and Trust care pathways.
- To be responsible for holding and managing a clinical caseload and to exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the planning and prioritising of own workload and the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients, within the bounds of the service operational policy.
- Be responsible for making clinical management decisions in complex clinical issues.
- To clinically supervise junior nursing colleagues, nursing students and other staff as appropriate.
- To professionally supervise and, when appropriate, manage junior nursing colleagues, nursing students and other staff as appropriate.
- To complete assessments of those referred to the service and outcome this in a timely manner in line with Code of Conduct.
- To provide consultation, mentorship, supervision and advice about clinical nursing issues to other members of the team/service and other professionals working with service users across a range of agencies/settings as appropriate.
- To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systemic governance of nursing practice within the team.
