ABOUT THE CLUB
Newburgh Links Golf Club is an 18-hole championship links course established in 1888 on the Aberdeenshire coast, less than 15 miles from Aberdeen. Rated in National Club Golfer’s Top 100 Courses in Scotland and ranked in the top 10 golf courses in the North East, the club is heading into its third season under new ownership with growing visitor numbers and a fully renovated clubhouse. We are looking for an experienced Club Professional to step into the role vacated by our retiring pro and become a central part of life at Newburgh Links. This is a hands- on, people-facing role at a club with real ambition and a growing profile.
THE ROLE
The Club Professional is a key member of the Newburgh Links team, responsible for the running of the pro shop, all tuition and coaching provision, and the professional experience of members and visitors on and around the course. You will be the public face of the club for many guests and the f irst point of professional contact for members looking to improve their game.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Pro Shop & Retail
- Manage the daily operation of the pro shop, including presentation, stock management and ordering.
- Develop and maintain a retail offering suited to the membership and visitor profile, including clothing, equipment and club accessories.
- Manage club hire, buggy hire, trolley hire and all associated equipment, keeping everything in good working order.
- Handle all shop consumables including tees, pitch repairers, ball markers, scorecards and sundries.
- Manage till operations, cash handling and retail reporting.
Tuition & Coaching
- Provide individual and group lessons to members and visitors across all ability levels.
- Develop and lead a junior coaching programme to grow the next generation of golfers at the club.
- Organise junior camps, group clinics and beginner programmes to attract new members and increase participation.
- Work with the club to promote coaching packages and tuition as part of the overall membership offering.
Member & Visitor Experience
- Be a welcoming and knowledgeable presence for members and visitors, representing the club to the highest standard.
- Assist with the organisation and smooth running of competitions and events, including starter duties where required.
- Support the club in planning and delivering member social events and competitions throughout the season.
- Liaise with the greenkeeping team and management on course conditions, rules and any playing matters.
General
- Maintain the pro shop and surrounding areas to a high standard of presentation at all times.
- Keep the club compliant with R&A rules and any relevant Scottish Golf Ltd requirements.
- Contribute to the marketing and promotion of the club, including social media where appropriate.
- Work closely with the club director on commercial opportunities and the development of the club.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Essential
- PGA qualified or equivalent professional golf qualification.
- Proven experience as a club professional or in a similar golf operations role.
- Strong teaching ability with a track record of working with golfers across all ability levels.
- Confident retail and stock management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to engage with members and guests.
- Well organised, self-motivated and capable of managing the pro shop independently.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and competition days.
Desirable
- Experience running junior coaching programmes or development academies.
- Knowledge of tee time management and booking systems.
- Familiarity with WHS handicapping and competition administration.
- Experience with social media and digital promotion of a golf club or coaching business.
