Composition Tutor
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance
We are seeking an exception composition teacher to join our thriving composition department at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, SE London. We run a unique series of undergraduate and postgraduate courses that are focussed on orchestration skills, the traditions of experimental music and the relationship between music and dance, film and other art forms. Our students collaborate with each other, with student and professional ensembles, with dance and with external partners. All compositions are performed or recorded, and students develop the ability not only to compose but to curate their own events. The courses culminate in large scale performances of their final works. We welcome students from non-traditional backgrounds and strive to be an exceptionally open and welcoming community.
The primary activity will be teaching composition on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, with the possibility of an additional class about the relationship between music and other art forms. The teaching of composition is expected to include advanced harmonic and structural techniques alongside orchestration skills and conceptual understanding based on ideas from within and outside the Western music canon. Mentoring and wellbeing support is inherent within the student/teacher relationship and is something that we take great pride in within the department.
As an equal opportunity employer, we positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
Please note all applications submitted will be shortlisted anonymously by our recruiting panel, so please ensure that your name and personal details are not included to the supporting statement, otherwise we will not be able to consider your application.
