Job Overview

Applications are invited for Junior Clinical Fellows (CT1 Equivalent Level) in ENT.

Extensive prior experience in this speciality is not essential. This post is suitable for junior doctors wishing to apply in the future for core surgical or other specialty training programmes (including general practice and radiology), and for those who are as yet undecided as to their future career path. This post would be valuable in terms of supporting applications and gaining experience for Core Surgical Training.

The posts will sit alongside F2/Core Training doctors. Clinical experience and training will be at a similar level to Foundation Year 2/Core Surgical Trainee year 1 training, and educational supervision will be provided. Engagement with portfolio development including workplace-based assessments, learning agreements, educational supervision, audit and teaching will be encouraged and supported. Advice and support with regard to applications to future training can also be offered.

The post will not have recognised educational approval, but will have similar supervision, study leave and annual leave as that of a recognised training post.

These are the current applicable pay scales; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Further details can be found at BMA+-+Framework+Agreement+Wales

Main duties of the job

The ENT Department covers the whole of Gwent. Inpatient are undertaken in Grange University Hospital, day case and outpatients are provided at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. Outpatient Clinics are also held at Nevill Hall and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospitals in Gwent. The ENT Departments staffs 8 Consultants, 3 SAS, 4 Specialty Trainees, 3 Core Trainees, 2 FP2, 2 Clinical Fellow CT level also a GP trainee. The ENT rota is a 1:8

Excellent Postgraduate Medical facilities are available in a recently refurbished Postgraduate Centre.
