Our construction colleagues have significant responsibility for the ongoing maintenance of one of the region’s largest property portfolios. With work spanning responsive and planned repairs, cyclical maintenance and emergency out of hours repairs, fire and building safety, disabled adaptations, asset improvement, stores, purchasing and waste, call handling and customer support, this is a high-performing team operating on the front line with a truly vital role to play in ensuring safe living and working conditions for residents and employees of Gateshead.
About the role
We’ve got an exciting opportunity for a Stores Operative to join our brilliant team whose ambition is to deliver on the promises we make to our customers. You will be part of a stores team providing a materials collection and delivery service, and waste transfer facility for Repairs and Maintenance of Housing, Schools and Public Buildings, Construction Major Works and Highways.
You will collate and issue building materials via the stores trade counter, accurately check and accept deliveries into stores from suppliers, prepare material kits and deliver materials and PPE to sites around the borough of Gateshead, assist with stock control of materials including goods in and out, input data recording material transactions onto IT systems, assist in the loading and off-loading of materials delivered to the stores, drive a telehandler and forklift for movement of materials and waste, and work within the waste transfer area loading and offloading and segregating waste.
What you'll get to do
- Collate and issue materials via Stores trade counter.
- Accurately check and accept deliveries into Stores from suppliers.
- Prepare materials kits for planned work schemes.
- Deliver materials and PPE to sites around the borough of Gateshead.
- Assist the Senior Stores Operatives in the management of stock control of materials including goods in and out and monitor economic stock levels.
- Input data recording material transactions onto IT systems.
- Maintain the Van Stock system.
- Drive a telehandler and forklift for movement of materials and waste in line with Council procedures
- Work within Waste Transfer Station area loading and offloading and segregating waste.
- Maintain upkeep and cleanliness of Stores and WTS facility, and other areas where necessary.
- Be pro-active in all aspects of health and safety and be fully compliant with current legislation.
- Demonstrate a positive, diverse and inclusive attitude to both internal and external customers and colleagues.
What you'll bring
Knowledge of stock and waste control processes
Knowledge of yard and warehouse processes
Proficiency in MS Office Suite or similar office IT systems
Experience working in a construction stores environment
Experience of stock control
Experience of data inputting
Ability to work as part of a team and use own initiative when required
Experience working with a diverse range of customers
Full UK driving licence
