About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Shift Engineering Team Leader to join our operations team. This is a key leadership role responsible for maintaining safe, efficient, and continuous operation of a processing facility.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring high standards of safety, performance, and reliability while driving continuous improvement across operations and maintenance activities. Outside of core operating hours, you will take overall responsibility for the site and teams on shift.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
• Lead, support and develop a team of technicians and operators
• Plan, allocate and oversee daily workload and maintenance activities
• Provide coaching, guidance and performance feedback
• Supervise contractors and ensure safe systems of work
• Take control during emergency situations when required
Technical Oversight
• Ensure equipment is maintained and operated safely and efficiently
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical and operational issues
• Identify opportunities to improve performance and reliability
Performance & Reporting
• Support shift meetings, briefings and training sessions
• Monitor and report on operational and maintenance performance
• Use systems such as CMMS, SCADA and SharePoint
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures
• Conduct inspections, audits and incident investigations
• Implement corrective actions and continuous improvements
Operational Collaboration
• Work closely with operations, maintenance and support teams
• Ensure smooth shift handovers and communication
• Support internal and external audit requirements
Standards & Housekeeping
• Maintain high housekeeping standards across all work areas
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Skills
• GCSE Maths & English (Grade 5 or above)
• ONC/HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
• Strong leadership and organisational skills
• Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
• Experience in engineering maintenance within a processing, manufacturing or industrial environment
• IT skills (Microsoft Office, reporting systems, CMMS)
Desirable
• Leadership or management qualification
• NEBOSH General Certificate
• Project management experience (e.g. PRINCE2)
• Knowledge of ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001)
• Experience with contractor management and permit-to-work systems
