At New Meaning Training (NMT), we support young people who need an alternative to mainstream education — often those facing significant social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

Our work is rooted in relationships, trust, and safeguarding young people every single day.

We are now looking for a Board Member with safeguarding experience to join us and help ensure every young person we work with is protected, supported, and given the opportunity to succeed.

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your safeguarding expertise at a governance level — helping shape how we protect and support vulnerable young people across our centres.

You will act as our Board Safeguarding Lead, working alongside senior leaders to:

*Ask the right questions

*Provide independent oversight

*Strengthen our safeguarding culture

*Why this role matters

*Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do.

*Early risks are identified

*Staff are supported

*Young people are kept safe

*Your input will directly influence the safety and wellbeing of the learners we support.

*Safeguarding / child protection

*Education, social care, youth services or mental health

*Working with vulnerable young peopleYou don’t need previous Board experience — just:

*Confidence to ask questions

*A commitment to high standards

*A genuine passion for improving outcomes for young people

*Commitment to our mission and values

Time commitment: Approx. 4–6 Board meetings per year

Occasional additional input on safeguarding matters

Flexible and primarily remote
