Do you have the skills to lead teams of Chargehands and Gardeners, as well working proactively with colleagues across the council and the city’s partners to support its overall successful future, maintaining and enhancing our parks and greenspaces within Derby. Then we would love to hear from you.
An opportunity has arisen for a Grounds Maintenance Officer to join the Parks and Greenspace Operations team. To ensure that services are delivered efficiently and effectively, the successful candidate must be able to lead and assist with managing transformation and change, ensuring that staff at all levels are involved in shaping the future of the service.
You will organise and manage grounds maintenance operations on Parks, Greenspaces and third-party sites such as Education and Health Care premises. Ensure that all operations are fully integrated with the work of other sections of Climate and Active Environments as well as other Streetpride services, promoting excellent service standards throughout in accordance with Derby City Councils specifications.
The Opportunity
In the role of Grounds Maintenance Officer, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
Leading a team of gardeners and chargehands to deliver cyclical mowing, weed management programmes, empty homes clearance through our Derby Homes contract, ensuring health surveillance of the team is kept up to date and assist in the development of the team as well as your own personal development.
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have...
- 3 years practical experience of all types of grounds maintenance work.
- 2 years’ experience in the supervision of grounds maintenance work.
- Ability to understand site plans and documentation.
- A good level of IT skills.
- Thorough knowledge of health and safety issues and legislation relating to grounds maintenance work.
- Willing to participate in emergency out of hours standby rota system.
- NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent.
- Possession of a full UK driving licence.
- Ensure that you work to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion practices adopted by the Derby City Council in line with the Equality Act 2000.
- Excellent leadership skills
- Great and effective communication
