Job Summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to lead and further develop the Specialist Services Laboratory at Leeds. Working closely with the wider leadership team, the successful candidate will provide operational and strategic oversight of a busy laboratory service. We would invite applications from individuals who can demonstrate a passion for laboratory medicine, an enthusiasm for quality improvement and a strong team working ethic.

Why you should join our Team

The successful candidate will join the Specialist Services team, which is located at St James’s University Hospital. This is an exciting time to join one of the largest Pathology departments in the country. Our new state of the art Pathology building (Centre for Laboratory Medicine) is now operational and all services will have transferred in the coming months. It is a progressive and highly patient-focused service and encompasses; Metabolic, Toxicology (drugs of abuse), Trace metals and Immunosuppressant monitoring, Steroid Endocrinology, Biochemical Genetics, Newborn screening, Antenatal screening and the Haemoglobinopathy service.

What you will bring to the role

Candidates will be well organised and able to manage and prioritise their workload successfully. Excellent communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to cultivate and maintain good working relationships with service users, departmental colleagues and senior managers. We’re looking for a compassionate, inclusive, and collaborative leader who shares our values and can build strong partnerships.

An important part of the role is the continual service development through evaluation of processes, services and technologies to meet the requirement of our current and future users. The candidate ideally will have some experience of change management and service transformation.

The successful candidate must have HCPC registration and possess an MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification. A recognised management qualification at certificate or diploma level, as well as proven management experience would advantageous.
