This post is non-residential. You will carry a bleep and be on-call with others on a 1:8 on call rota. As a locum you are responsible for managing your work hours but you must ensure you are safe to work. The registrars timetables are such that they are firm based and registrars will rotate as determined by the registrars lead, Miss Barbara Gerber. It is vital for patient safety that you takeover and handover jobs and patient information at the start and finish of each shift or day. The handover will normally be supervised and attended by a Consultant once a day, however it is the responsibility of all concerned to ensure that duties and jobs are handed over correctly at all times.
The day starts at 8am with Board Ward Round at the JRH or at the Churchill hospital (Blenheim ward) during Oncology blocks. This should be attended by the on-call team, all SpR’s and Consultants and any juniors who are not otherwise engaged. You should attend the board round when on training days in the JR and on Audit days.
Registrars who are timetabled to be in theatre should miss the board round and attend the ward at 7.30am to see all patients for the list on that day and ensure they are consented and ready for theatre and an 8.15 WHO.
You may have your own MOS sessions which will initially be supervised as required.
There will be a second handover and ward round at 5pm, attended by the on-call team including the SpR and sometimes the Consultant on-call. This meets in the board room.
