The Role

The Professional Development Phase Coach & Loans Manager will play a key role in supporting the delivery of elite learning and performance environment for players within the Professional Development Phase, supporting the Men’s First Team on the sporting side, whilst leading and coordinating the club’s player loan programme.

You will identify and secure appropriate loan environments for developing players, monitor their progress, and ensure strong communication between the club and its partner clubs. You will also support players transitioning out of the Academy by creating structured exit pathways aligned with football, education or career opportunities.

The role will support the technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social development of players transitioning towards senior football, ensuring appropriate internal and external development opportunities are identified and maximised.

The successful candidate will work closely with Academy, First Team and Multi-Disciplinary staff to support player progression, loan management and long-term succession planning aligned to the club philosophy and performance objectives

What you'll be doing

Professional Development Phase Coaching

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality coaching sessions in line with the club’s playing philosophy and game model.
  • Support the PDP Senior Coach and Pathways Lead on the development of players within the Professional Development Phase.
  • Support the Men’s First Team with duties aligned to the needs and requirements within the senior team environment.
  • Support the delivery and reviews of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) with the PDP coaching staff on the players within that phase.
  • Support the transition of players from Academy football into senior football environments.
  • Conduct individual and unit reviews using video and performance analysis.
  • Prepare players for Academy and senior football demands both on and off the pitch.
  • Work collaboratively with MDT staff to ensure holistic player development.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports in line with EPPP requirements.
  • Contribute to fixtures, tours, tournaments that may include Academy and Men’s First Team events as required.

Loans Management

  • Lead and coordinate the club’s player loan strategy and programme.
  • Identify suitable loan opportunities aligned to individual player development needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external clubs, coaching staff, agents and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of loan players through match observation, regular visits, reporting, regular communication and performance reviews.
  • Establish key performance indicators to measure loan success and player development.
  • Produce formal player loan reports and recommendations for Academy and First Team staff.
  • Coordinate player transition plans before, during and after loan periods.
  • Ensure appropriate welfare, safeguarding and player care support is in place for loan players
  • Support recall, extension and permanent transfer recommendations where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate loan tracking documentation and compliance processes.

Leadership & Culture

  • Act as a positive role model for players and staff.
  • Build strong working relationships across all departments.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Academy.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability and integrity always.

Compliance, Administration & Reporting

  • Ensure full compliance with FA, EFL and FIFA regulations in relation to loans and player movement
  • Work closely with the Club Secretary’s office on all relevant football administration
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting on loan and transition players
  • Provide performance updates and reports to the Academy Management Team & Men’s First Team Staff

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety and equality policies.
  • Report any concerns in line with club procedures.
  • Always maintain professional boundaries and safe working practices.

What you'll need

Essential

  • UEFA A Licence (or working towards)
  • Experience coaching within an elite Academy environment
  • Strong understanding of Professional Development Phase player development
  • Knowledge of EPPP standards and requirements
  • Experience managing or coordinating player loans
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Excellent organisational and reporting skills

Desirable

  • FA Advanced Youth Award (or working towards)
  • Experience within senior football environments
  • Understanding of talent identification and recruitment processes
  • Experience using performance analysis software
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
