About the Role

As a Senior Technician you will assist the delivery of learning (and preparation for learning) through undertaking a variety of activities in a specific learning environment, such as a Workshop or a Laboratory. You will be required to lead a team of staff providing a comprehensive range of technical and related functions responsive to the needs of the college.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure learning environments are safe and secure, with equipment that is ready and available for the delivery of learning as required for a specific learning programme
  • Assist in the design and delivery of learning programmes
  • Support members of the delivery team through overseeing the work of students
  • Perform general technical duties such as – but not limited to – the assembly of, setting out, checking for operation and dismantling of equipment, tools and materials, as well as storage of substances and equipment which may be of a high risk of harm or injury to students and staff.
  • Managing, monitoring and supervising a team of Technicians and related Support Staff. (This may include supervision of a multi-disciplinary team);
  • Advising on the suitability of machinery and equipment prior to purchase;
  • Undertaking Technician duties in specific areas in accordance with skills, and curriculum demands in all College Centres;
  • Providing lecturers with technical support in the students’ learning environment;
  • Advising developments in the Programme Area;
  • Being involved with staff on matters of a practical nature for example, teaching, training and demonstrating the use of equipment and processes to staff; in liaison with the appropriate Manager, assisting with the supervision and training of appropriate technical and related support staff
