Your Role
We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to join our Planning and Building Control service. In this varied role, you will be responsible for processing and validating planning and building control applications, keeping accurate records, and carrying out a wide range of administrative duties to support the smooth running of the service.
You will work closely with planning officers, building inspectors, and residents and agents, providing high-quality administrative and customer support. The role requires attention to detail, use of IT systems, and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines, contributing to the efficient delivery of key council services.
About You
You will be organised, detail-oriented, and confident managing a varied workload in a fast-paced environment. Ideally, you will have administrative experience, strong IT skills, and the ability to process and check information accurately in line with procedures. You will also have excellent communication and customer service skills, and be proactive, reliable, and adaptable, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team while reflecting the Council’s values of collaboration, respect, and high-quality service.
You’ll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking Planning and Building Control service, helping to deliver essential regulatory functions that shape the borough. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills within a professional environment where accuracy, teamwork, and customer service are key.
We offer flexible and hybrid working, access to training and development, a generous annual leave allowance, and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. Alongside a strong focus on employee wellbeing, you’ll join a collaborative team committed to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality services to our communities.
At Stockport Council we are one ambitious team on a mission to create opportunities for everyone who lives, works and spends time in the borough. Working at Stockport Council means contributing to one of the most thriving towns in the North. We’re keen to recruit people with the right values and behaviours that can help us ensure our workplace values are at the heart of everything we do.
We are proud to be recognised under the Good Employment Charter as an organisation committed to the wellbeing of our colleagues. As members of the charter, we have been recognised as a great place to work for all colleagues and pledge to pay the real living wage, engage staff in key decisions and endorse fair and flexible working conditions.
