In response to national plans to transform mental health services we have built a substantial trust-wide organisational sub-structure with psychologists in lead roles including at directorate level. We have pathway and service leads who are supported by psychologists at every grade. There are therefore clear career paths for psychologists who join us and we are committed to supporting your development. We support our psychologists to employ the full range of their skills, and to divide their time accordingly.

You will be able to participate in teaching, training, research, service development, managerial and clinical supervision, team supervision, reflective practice and direct clinical work for individuals and groups. The advertised post is for a band 8b psychologist, and we would also welcome applications from those aspiring to step up to this grade.

The significant investment in mental health identified in the NHS Long Term Plan is shaping our development of mental health services. The Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams will provide care for working age adults who are experiencing severe mental health difficulties. In accord with the national plan we are in the process of operationalising significant changes to our services to improve the mental health of our Leicestershire population, and psychological aspects of support are especially being developed and expanded.

The Neighbourhood Mental Health Team is multidisciplinary, including Community Connectors, Peer Support Workers, Health Care Support Workers, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Psychiatric Nurses and Occupational Therapists. Teams work closely with Social Care, Primary Care and Voluntary Community & Social Enterprise. As an embedded member of the multidisciplinary team you will have opportunity to apply and/or hone the breadth of psychology skills, and do so with the support and supervision of a group of experienced psychologist peers that meet regularly for clinical supervision, learning, clinical and service development discussion, and peer support. You will provide clinical input to the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team covering East Leicestershire, in the form of consultation, supervision and direct interventions with service users.

You will join a group of qualified Clinical/Counselling psychologists, Clinical Associates in Psychology, Clinical Psychologist Trainees and Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners, working together to provide and develop the psychology provision to eight multidisciplinary community teams. There will be opportunities to develop yourself through internal and external training programmes. We support professional development through annual appraisal/development plans, post-qualification development, job plans and supervision.

We have strong links to the University of Leicester Clinical Psychology Department; offering teaching sessions, trainee placements and input to the development of the course curriculum. Our service is also part of a network of Clinical Psychologists who work within Leicestershire partnership NHS Trust including psychologists in adult mental health, perinatal and maternal mental health, families and young people, learning difficulties, neuropsychology, health psychology and a specialist forensic service. This group meets on a regular basis to exchange ideas through a forum meeting.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)

The post-holder will provide highly specialist clinical psychology assessment, intervention and consultation to a Neighbourhood Mental Health Team serving the East Leicestershire locality. This will entail work with patients falling within the remits of this service and its catchment areas. The post-holder will offer advice and consultation on patient’s psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues, and where appropriate deliver psychological interventions; working autonomously within professional guidelines and the Trust policies, procedures and service priorities.

The post-holder will participate fully in multidisciplinary clinical teams, often leading them, in providing a service to their patients. The post-holder will deploy knowledge and skills in general aspects of clinical psychology including the assessment and treatment of patients who are legally detained as mentally ill. The post-holder will be capable of conducting projects, working independently, with only general briefings and working directly to senior managers.
