An exciting opportunity has arisen to offer a 1 year fixed term post to an Occupational Therapist to work in the Tri-borough Perinatal Mental Health Service. This is an innovative award winning service delivering new models of specialist care within West London NHS Trust.

The position will be predominantly based in Ealing borough with work across Hounslow, Hammersmith and Fulham, with bases Trust Headquarters, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Maternity Hospital, Hounslow House and West Middlesex University Hospital/Lakeside Mental Health Unit.

This is an opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work in a specialist area to gain exposure and enhance their knowledge and skills with the support of a highly specialised team. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop their own specialist skills in Perinatal Mental Health.

The duties in brief will include assessments of referrals to the service, managing an Occupational Therapy clinical caseload of antenatal and postnatal women, providing Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention, supervising Peer Support Workers and students, whilst working within a multidisciplinary team.

We would support the successful candidate with an ongoing training programme to facilitate their development within the post.

  • The Band 6 Occupational Therapist will provide a person centred, evidence based occupational therapy service to women in the perinatal period. To apply clinical skills and reasoning in assessment, treatment, intervention and evaluation which include individual and group orientated approaches.

To manage a caseload of women with complex, severe and enduring mental health needs, providing interventions which support and promote improved mental and physical health for mothers, babies and their families. To use evidence-based principles to apply clinical skills and reasoning in occupational therapy, assessment, treatment planning, intervention and evaluation which include individual and group orientated approaches.

To work in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team to support the development of and promote evidence-based OT within the perinatal service.

To work in conjunction with senior staff in the MDT to support the development of services. Actively liaise with the MDT, Health and maternity services and third sector organisations. To provide occupational therapy clinical expertise while engaging and contributing to professional meetings such as multi-agency case reviews, birth planning, child protection meetings and any other meetings related to the care and treatment of the women and their babies.
