We have an exciting opportunity that has arisen for a part time motivated Staff Nurse to work within our brand new state of the art Cataract Theatre Suite which has recently opened at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Cross site working to The Princess Royal Hospital Ophthalmology Clinic is essential.
Experience within a Theatre setting would be extremely desirable, but training would be given for the right applicant who has the desire to make a difference and endeavour to maintain a high standard of care for our patients.
Ongoing support will be offered & there will be a training package in place.
The Temporary 9 months post offered is for 28 hours per week, working for 3 variable days Monday– Friday. Some weekend working may be necessary depending on the demands & needs of the ophthalmic service.
Suitable newly qualified staff will be considered.
You will be primarily based within the Theatre Suite assisting the ophthalmic clinician to undertake cataract surgery under local anaesthetic. With the expectation to cross site work in The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, Ophthalmology Dept. The role will include scrubbing, escorting, admission and discharge of theatre patients, testing visual acuity as well as any other diagnostic tests that may be necessary.
In addition to working within the Theatre Suite, there will also be the opportunity to rotate into Ophthalmology Outpatients in The Princess Royal Hospital that deals with several ophthalmic sub-specialities, making this a diverse, exciting opportunity for the right applicant.
Each person, patient or visitor, visiting Ward 20 will be met with courtesy and respect. The individual will be treated confidentially with dignity maintained at all times.
Each patient will be allowed maximum consultation time with further help and information offered as necessary.
Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment
We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.
We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.
Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.
By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
