Power Systems Engineer

Engineering Power Solutions Ltd - EPS

Power System Engineers (All Levels)

North East | Competitive Salary

EPS is growing. Our clients value both the work we deliver and how we deliver it. That continued demand is creating opportunity across the business.

We’re looking for Power Systems Engineers at different stages of their careers. Whether you’re building your experience or already operating at a senior level, what matters is strong technical fundamentals and the appetite to keep developing, be challenged, and contribute to what comes next for EPS.

Why engineers choose EPS

At some point, most engineers start asking the same questions:

  • Am I recognised for the work I put in?
  • Is the work I’m doing still stretching me?
  • If I want to progress, will I be supported to do it properly?

At EPS, those questions are answered through the work you’re trusted with, the environment around you, and how the business is run.

We are a founder-led electrical engineering and design consultancy. That still shows in how the business operates. People know each other. Work is visible. Good engineering is recognised. Decisions are made by people who understand the detail.

We’ve grown significantly in recent years across T&D, renewables, Oil & Gas, manufacturing and Data centre fields. That growth has come from the quality of our work and the relationships we build.

It’s also reflected in our retention. Our staff turnover is around 2.5 times lower than the industry average, in a sector where experienced engineers have options.

What you’ll be working on

You’ll work across a range of power systems studies and electrical engineering projects, contributing across modelling, analysis, technical reporting and delivery.

We use industry-standard tools including ETAP, DIgSILENT, Trimble, PSCAD, ELEK and CDEGS.

Your work is likely to include:

  • Load flow, short circuit and arc flash studies
  • Protection coordination and transient analysis
  • Grid code compliance (G99, G5/5, P28)
  • Earthing Design
  • Insulation Coordination Studies
  • Building and validating network models
  • Producing and presenting technical reports

You’ll work alongside other design engineers and earthing specialists, with the space to apply your thinking and the support there when you need it.

This way of working supports growth and exposure to electrical design, creates a more streamlined project delivery process, and allows our engineers to build a better understanding of the design process.

How we work

Engineers at EPS are not confined to a single part of a project.

You’ll be involved from early modelling through to conclusions and client discussions. That gives you a clear line of sight between the work you’re doing and the difference you’re making.

In practice, that means broader exposure, greater ownership, and a stronger understanding of how projects come together.

We support the development of our engineers through a collaborative and structured approach:

  • Over 70% of engineers completed formal training or CPD in the past year
  • Peer review and knowledge sharing are embedded into our day-to-day work
  • Support and mentoring are provided through our route to chartership programme

Progression reflects the quality of your work, your contribution to the team, and the trust you build over time.

What we offer

  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
  • Early finish Fridays
  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme with matched contributions
  • Life assurance cover
  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Health cash plan
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Regular team outings

We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements, including part-time, compressed hours, or job-share opportunities where suitable for the role and business needs.

Through our Private Medical Insurance and Health Cash Plan providers, you’ll also have access to health and lifestyle benefits, including:

  • Quick access to GP services
  • Physiotherapy and counselling support
  • Employee discounts and wellbeing support
  • Ongoing investment in training, CPD and route to chartership

What we’re looking for

We’re open to engineers at different career stages. What matters most is a strong technical foundation, a genuine interest in power systems, and the drive to keep developing.

For this role, we’re looking for someone with:

• A 2:1 degree or above in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline

• Experience or exposure to power systems studies or electrical design

• Familiarity with relevant standards such as IEC, IEEE/ANSI

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients and project teams

For more senior roles, experience leading technical delivery and working on complex projects will be important.

Who this suits

Engineers who want to stay close to the technical detail, take ownership of their work, and continue developing without being restricted to a narrow scope.

This suits those early in their career through to experienced engineers looking for a new environment where they can continue to grow.
