The Head of Estates Operations leads the effective operation and maintenance of the Trust’s estate across all Trust sites (circa 100 locations), ensuring buildings and engineering systems are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. The role has responsibility for managing significant estates budgets, including capital, maintenance, utilities, rent and rates, and for overseeing maintenance and capital contracts supporting the whole estate.
Working closely with the Estates Leadership Team, the post holder provides expert professional leadership and advice on estates, engineering and building matters, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) and relevant codes of practice. The role has overall responsibility for statutory compliance, operational estates maintenance, electrical and mechanical services, building fabric, capital maintenance programmes and minor improvement works, delivered through a mix of directly employed staff, contractors and project‑based teams.

To lead and manage all aspects of Estates Operations, planning and maintenance activities for the Trust in accordance with Trust policies, procedures, statutory requirements and allocated budgets, ensuring buildings and engineering systems are safe and available for intended use.
Provide leadership and expert professional advice on engineering and building activities, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) and codes of practice.
Manage delegated estates budgets including capital, revenue, utilities, rent and rates.
Manage estates maintenance contracts and capital schemes, ensuring NHS-compliant procurement and performance management.
Ensure statutory compliance across all Trust sites including electrical, mechanical, water, asbestos, gas and pressure systems.
Lead business continuity planning to maintain safe, compliant estate operations at all times.
