What you need to know about the role
We’re looking for an Area Manufacturing Manager at our Billet Caster to lead all manufacturing, operational and improvement activities. The role will ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations within a steelmaking environment, delivering operational excellence, driving performance, and leading continuous improvement through effective people management and technical capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team by being a strong people manager with the confidence to make decisions, resolve issues and set clear expectations.
- Lead and enforce exceptional HSE performance, ensuring full compliance with statutory and company requirements.
- Maintain strong occupational and process safety standards, including risk assessments, Management of Work, isolations and Management of Change.
- Ensure robust incident reporting and investigation, driving learning and continuous improvement.
- Deliver safe, efficient billet‑casting operations aligned with business targets and operational standards.
- Apply strong technical expertise in steelmaking and casting to improve process stability, reliability and performance.
- Lead daily management routines to achieve operational KPIs and maintain accurate safety and performance data.
- Provide inspiring leadership to develop a high‑performing, motivated workforce.
- Promote a fair, just and inclusive working environment.
- Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives (Six Sigma, BEM, RCA) to optimise cost, performance and efficiency.
- Apply commercial awareness to support cost‑effective operations and manage service‑level agreements.
- Ensure effective use of business systems (LOIS, SAP, incident databases) to support decision‑making.
What we need to know about you
- Degree‑level qualification in engineering, process management, or a related discipline.
- Extensive knowledge of steelmaking and integrated plant operations, with the ability to oversee complex production environments.
- Demonstrated leadership experience within heavy industry or large‑scale manufacturing settings.
- Strong understanding of HSE systems, risk management, and operational controls.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) essential.
- Safety leadership with a strong commitment to compliance and operational integrity.
- Decision‑making and problem‑solving in fast‑paced industrial environments.
- Communication and stakeholder management with the ability to influence at all levels.
- People leadership with a focus on coaching, performance, and team development.
- Continuous improvement mindset, driving operational excellence and efficiency.
