We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated

0.3 FTE Lecturer in Counselling to join our Teacher Education and Counselling department.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced counselling practitioner and educator who is passionate about supporting adult learners within the Further Education sector. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching across our counselling and mentoring programmes, helping learners develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required for progression within helping roles and the counselling profession.

Working closely with the Curriculum Lead for Teacher Education and Counselling, you will contribute to the continued growth and development of our counselling provision, creating engaging and inclusive learning experiences that promote reflective practice, personal development and professional competence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Counselling and Mentoring programmes Our provision offers Level 1 – 4 qualifications.
  • Undertake course leadership and personal tutor responsibilities, supporting learners academically, professionally and pastorally.
  • Develop engaging and innovative learning materials using Information Learning Technology (ILT) and multimedia resources.
  • Promote reflective practice, ethical awareness and professional standards in line with counselling profession requirements.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, development and quality improvement activities.
  • Support the continued development and expansion of the Counselling provision.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, external agencies and other stakeholders to support learner achievement, progression and positive outcomes.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Level 5 Counselling qualification (or above).
  • Certificate in Education, PGCE, Level 5 Teaching Qualification or equivalent, or willingness to work towards.
  • Membership or accreditation with a relevant professional body, such as the BACP or NCPS.
  • Experience of delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Experience of delivering counselling qualifications and/or training to adult learners.
  • Professional experience working as a counsellor.
  • Experience of developing and evaluating learning materials and resources.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to supporting learners to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications

  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications

  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
