Job Vacancy Structural Engineer

Location: Hereford, Herefordshire (Office-based)

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Glosford SIPS, part of the Keystone & Wyckham Blackwell Group of Companies, is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our team at the Glosford Manufacturing and Design Facility in Hereford.

We deliver complete structural building envelope solutions using Kingspan TEK wall and roof panels, together with engineered timber floors and internal timber frame partitions. Continued growth has created an opportunity to strengthen our internal engineering capability.

Role Overview (Aligned to IStructE & ICE Competencies A–C)

This is a key office-based technical role within our project delivery team. The Structural Engineer will manage the early stages of the structural design and coordination process, from order acceptance through to detailed technical development.

Working collaboratively with clients, architects, engineers, and Glosford’s commercial, technical, design, and operations teams, you will ensure that projects are structurally sound, compliant with relevant standards, and fit for manufacture and installation.

You will act as the primary technical contact for assigned projects, applying engineering judgement to resolve design challenges and contributing to continuous improvement in design quality and buildability.

This role provides strong exposure to Competencies A (Knowledge), B (Analysis & Design), and C (Responsibility), and supports progression toward professional registration.

Key Responsibilities (Competency-mapped)

Technical Knowledge & Design (Competencies A & B)

• Apply core civil and structural engineering principles to the design of timber and SIPs structures

• Prepare and check structural calculations, including gravity, wind, and imposed load assessments

• Develop and issue line and point load information for use by clients, consultants, and foundation designers

• Review architectural and engineering drawings for structural viability, compliance, and buildability

• Interpret and apply relevant UK standards, including Eurocodes (particularly EC0, EC1, EC5)

Engineering Judgement & Coordination (Competency C)

• Act as the technical lead for assigned projects during the pre-design and design coordination phases

• Liaise with clients and their professional teams to resolve engineering issues and agree structural solutions

  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and practical to install
  • Liaise with external engineers and specialists where required

• Respond to ad-hoc engineering queries, applying proportionate and well-reasoned solutions

Communication & Professional Practice (Competencies D & E – Developing)

• Attend and contribute to site and virtual design meetings

• Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing

• Produce technical mark-ups, sketches, and clear supporting information

• Work in accordance with company procedures, quality systems, and professional standards

• Demonstrate a commitment to ethical practice, safety, and continuous professional development

Experience & Qualifications (Aligned to IStructE / ICE Attributes)

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng or MEng or equivalent)

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry, ideally within: o Timber frame o SIPs or off-site manufacture o Low- to mid-rise building structures

• Proven experience contributing to structural design calculations and technical coordination

• Sound understanding of: o Load paths and structural stability o Timber engineering principles o Interface between superstructure and foundations

• Experience working collaboratively with architects, engineers, and contractors

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
