In 2020, LCP launched its Health practice, providing analytical and research services across healthcare and life sciences. Our team brings together clinicians, statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists and health data scientists, alongside LCP’s established actuarial, analytics and technology expertise, to develop innovative solutions to some of the most important challenges in health.
We have grown rapidly in response to strong demand for our services and are now looking for a Health Automation Engineer to help scale our delivery capability. You will play an important part in helping the Health team move from high-quality bespoke delivery to more scalable, standardised and repeatable services. It will involve designing and building automation, data pipelines, technical infrastructure and reusable components that improve efficiency, quality and consistency across projects, while also supporting the deployment of advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools. This is an exciting opportunity to apply modern engineering and automation approaches to complex, high-impact problems in healthcare and life sciences.
What will you be doing?
You will work across a diverse range of automation and engineering projects that support both client delivery and the development of reusable internal capabilities. You will help develop robust, effective and accessible automation tools that target manual or repetitive processes, working closely with colleagues from a range of disciplines. The role combines hands-on engineering with process improvement and innovation, helping the team deliver work more efficiently, reliably and cost-effectively
Your key responsibilities will be to:

- Develop and maintain reliable, production-grade technical infrastructure to support analytical and operational processes
- Automate and improve workflows across data processing, analysis and reporting, increasing efficiency, consistency and quality
- Support the deployment, monitoring and maintenance of applications, including solutions that make use of AI and LLM-based tools
- Contribute to the design and development of reusable components, frameworks and templates to standardise delivery across projects
- Implement testing, validation and monitoring processes to improve the robustness, accuracy and maintainability of pipelines and applications
- Identify opportunities to improve data management, engineering processes and delivery approaches across the Health team
- Support cloud-based architecture, particularly in Azure, including performance optimisation, resilience and scalability
- Work closely with clinicians, analysts, statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists and other colleagues to turn complex analytical requirements into practical engineering solutions
- Support the secure, reliable and appropriately governed use of automation and AI tools, particularly in contexts involving sensitive or high-assurance health data
- Contribute to good engineering practice through documentation, code review, version control and continuous improvement of technical standards
What skills, experience and qualities are we looking for?
- A minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience in a data engineering, software engineering/developer or similar role, ideally within the UK healthcare and/or life sciences industry
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure with AWS/GCP also being acceptable
- Excellent programming skills (ideally Python) with experience developing applications (beyond scripting or analytical programming)
- Experience building data pipelines and/or production-grade applications
- Familiarity with AI/LLM-based tooling or applications
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a practical approach to designing solutions to complex technical and operational challenges
- Outcomes-focused, designing solutions that are effective and usable
- Comfortable with, and enjoyment in, working as part of a small, dynamic and multidisciplinary team, comfortable leading on day-to-day project activities with support from more experienced team members
- Initiative and creativity
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical internal stakeholders and project teams
- Excellent organisational skills
- Azure services such as Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Logic Apps or App Service
- Front-end web development, for example using Vue or React
