Senior Biomedical Scientist - Coagulation

Applicants are required for the post of Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology laboratory at Hull as part of the Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS).

You will be a qualified BMS, with MSc, or equivalent, and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the coagulation section of the Blood Sciences Laboratory. You must be state registered with the HCPC and have extensive post registration experience in a Haematology Laboratory, with evidence of CPD in coagulation.

The section covers coagulation testing.

The Haematology laboratory has a wide test repertoire including routine haematology, blood transfusion, coagulation, special haemostasis, HbA1c and haemoglobinopathy testing. The laboratory is one of the busiest haematology laboratories in the region processing in excess of 900,000 requests pa across two hospital sites. The department is equipped with TOSOH G11 analysers, Sysmex HST system, CN series coagulation analysers and Ortho Vision blood transfusion analysers.

All Biomedical Scientists are expected to participate fully in the local shift pattern once assessed as competent.

This is a challenging post for an enthusiastic, well motivated, forward thinking individual who will be expected to make a significant contribution to the development of the department.

The post holder will take delegated responsibility for day-to-day

operational matters of the coagulation section of the department, and deputise for the Chief Biomedical Scientist on technical matters in their absence.

They will supervise, train and develop subordinate staff, including Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA), ensuring that proficiency and competence and personal and professional standards of that group are maintained.
