Finance Assistant

The Church of England

The Bishop of Hereford seeks a highly organised, detail orientated and trustworthy Finance PA to join a warm and supportive team, providing essential administrative and financial support to enable the Bishop to carry out his ministry effectively.

This is a varied and rewarding part-time role (16 hours per week), primarily home-based, with occasional visits to Hereford. Working closely with the Bishop, his Chaplain, and the wider team, you will play a key role in managing financial processes with accuracy, discretion, and care.

Responsibilities include administering bank and credit card accounts, processing invoices and expenses, overseeing multiple accounts (including discretionary and charitable funds), and preparing quarterly and annual financial returns. You will liaise with organisations such as the Church Commissioners and Charity Commission, ensure compliance requirements are met, and contribute to budgeting and financial planning.

We are looking for someone with proven administrative experience, strong financial skills, and excellent attention to detail. You will be confident working independently in a remote environment, managing competing priorities, and handling sensitive information with integrity. Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships are essential.

Experience in a charity, church, or not-for-profit setting would be advantageous, as would familiarity with accounting systems.

This role offers the opportunity to become part of a dedicated and collaborative team, with scope for development for the right candidate. A basic understanding of and respect for the Christian faith is required, though there is no requirement to be a practising Christian.
